  • 9.5's in the mens 100m

Ussain Bolt is catching a lot of heat for showing off the last 20m or so in the finals, and essentially letting up.
by the way, he set a world record and he is only 21 (22 on friday)
my question - If you had a chance to shatter a world record on your sports biggest stage, wouldnt you want to?
the analysts say if he would have stayed on it he would have finished easily a tenth faster than his recorded time. In a sport where hundredths of a second make a difference, why not go all out.

he said it simply, he didnt come to the olympics to break a record, he came to win a gold.

Not running his fastest once he realized he had won the race was smart. That tease of his potential will have fans clamoring to watch any event he participates in from here on out, wondering if he's going to smash the world record. He can use that buzz to demand very high appearance fees from meet organizers. It was a smart business decision.

Also, there's a chance he didnt' want to push it to the max because he still has the 200m to run. Why risk injury when you've already won the race?

i see both sides of the argument. i do believe he was a bit cocky during and after the race though.

Um, he was showing off at the end of the race, not conserving his energy. I will tell you why, because he was raised to be in the spot light, not to truly be the best at what he does. Its really a shame.

i agree, he really wasn't trying to be smart about anything. you could see it in his body language. he was just trying to show how much better he was by not even trying at the end.

Looks like he could do 9.6, it boggles my mind how they are still getting faster at the hundred. When you saw Ben Johnston, then Maurice green I thought that was it, no-one could physically do more.

Also the 105kg weighlifting record was smashed today, absolutely shocking they were clean and jerk with like 5 plates a side and a five

Not that I really care & I'm sure others are doing it as well, but I have to believe the Jamaicans are on some sort of athletic performance enhancing drug.

They'd never won a gold in the 100m & all of a sudden they have a male & female winner. Not only that but the women sweep 1 - 3. The first time 1 - 3 have ever been swept by a country. Seems highly unlikely to me.

Looked disrespectful to his fellow athletes IMO......

Jamaica has always been very good. they may be on something but it sure isn't something that anyone else in the world knows about. these guys are testing beyond belief. seems unlikely to me that a country like Jamaica would have a cutting edge drug like that.

Anyone else get the feeling that this guy is going to smash Michael Johnson's 200m world record?
