My favorite breeds in order are boxers, dobermans, labs, american bulldogs
I dont need to make you understand it. I dont like the dogs you just posted other than the amercian bull dog, You dont have to make me understand that either. Isnt it great we get choices?
Trust me people should be worried more about me than my dog.

agree with what your saying and i like the idea.

but what people here are saying is that you never know what kind of life the pit at the shelter had, what kind of aggression he may have hidden etc..

again, i like what you are saying about saving a dog but i understand the point the others are making also.

Yep that's why I made the thread. I think the final choice will be between a pure bred pit or a shelter dog that isn't a pit. Just wanted to get some advice before I made a decision.

comparing a firecracker to a bomb...

this is comming from a guy that was raised with rots, mastiffs, etc.. so dont dismiss what i say as some kind of "anti pit" guy. i love pits. great dogs, but dont ever loose sight of the fact that they have the potential to kill.

i guess in your mind you dont need to worry about dobermans or american bulldogs killing another dog?

epic pit bull racism shining through in your post.

Are you saying that dobermans and American Bulldogs kill as many other dogs as pitt bulls do? Granted, Dobermans are known to be dog aggressive and American Bulldogs, somewhat dog aggressive, but not really. And when they do fight, they don't fight to kill the way pitt bulls do. That really isn't debatable.

Please don't label me a pitt hater. I've owned a pitt and we had to put her to sleep because she dug out of the fence and killed a neighbor's Pug and a cat. She loved people, but not other animals. The city made us put her to sleep and I'm still pretty upset about it and this happened 8 years ago.

I'm sorry, but this is a joke right? Aggressive labs? Please tell me your joking. I've seen more aggressive Chows and Dalmations than pitts, but Labs? Come on man.

i have seen a few agressive labs in my day. as a matter of fact, a lab jumped on my boxer about a year ago and got pretty aggressive, at that point my boxer owned the lab lol but the point remains.

Male labs can be very aggressive. Both to dogs and humans. I've seen it at the dog park, in the neighborhood while walking my dogs, etc.

Granted, pits raised badly are probably more dangerous than labs raised badly. But all things being equal, yes I have seen a higher number of aggressive labs than aggressive pits. And a strong male lab can kill a cat, small dog, or child, just like a pit can.

Now I'm not hating on labs or anything. My current dog is a black lab mix. All I am saying is that it just depends on how they are raised. I'll say one thing about pits though. Along with the german shepherds I had growing up, they are some of the most loyal dogs I have seen.
