  • So my doctor told me I had mono

I have been feeling run down the past few weeks. Got some blood taken earlier this week, and got a call yesterday. I am a little depressed.

I don't feel horrible, just not up to my usual self. The doctor said I can keep the same lifestyle I have, as long as I feel up to it. He did say to be careful lifting, because the spleen can become enlarged. And if I have any pain in the upper left portion of my abdomen, to head straight to the ER.

Has anyone else ever had mono? Were yo uable to continue working out through it? Or did you stop while down?

I think the crazy part is that if you don't have another flare up of the virus, it can take up to a year before you are completely in the clear.

Mono is caused by the Epstein-Barr virus which is contagious via saliva. You can catch it even if someone doesn't have symptoms. It is most common amongst teenagers but anyone can get it. I don't remember why it's most common amongst them, but it's like how the chicken pox is most common amongst children.

That i didn't know. I was hoping I was through the worst of it. I have been down since the end of September. From my reading, it usually runs it course in about 4-6 weeks. So i was hoping I was almost done with it. I have went dropped from 205 to 195 because of lack of appetite. I have been trying to get down food, but I can't sometimes. My workouts have okay to start, but twenty mins in I am exhausted.

i was under the impression that mono- was one of the causes, of EBV virus ,and chronic fatigue syndrome (cfs).

They aren't sure if CFS contributes to Mono or not, kinda like the chicken or the egg.

Correct, CFS is kind of in a gray area. I personally feel that it affects people, but like many other "illnesses" I believe people "want" to have CFS for attention, medication....and countless other reasons.

Doctors also want you to have something wrong with you, if people aren't sick then doctors aren't making money. IMO, Doctors prey on the uneducated, low income patients. Not all Doctors, but I see a vast majority that I would considered doing that.

Its a virus that runs its course, your body fights it. You get over it, and more often that not it doesn't flare back up. My friend's older sister had it when I was in elementary school. Still hasn't had any problems since. thats twenty years.

Its just a crapshoot how long it lasts
