I don't like putting my TV signals through the receiver because the damn thing has to be on all the time to watch TV. Yeah I suppose it's good if you need to multiplex your inputs but most new TVs have enough inputs to accomodate all your components. And I'm not convinced that HDMI is as good as optical.

For home theatre, the little satellite speakers and subwoofer set up is ok, but I've found that for music traditional large driver speakers sound much better. Home theatre was a secondary consideration when I bought my last receiver, so I ended up with a Technics bi-amp. The sound is amazingly crisp and clear - I hear new things in music I've heard a hundred times before.

I'm no expert, but if I were going with a built-in speaker solution I think I'd look at in-wall rather than ceiling - so the sound is projected horizontally rather than vertically.

I agree about keeping the receiver on all the time but if your TV has enough HDMI inputs you can have it both ways like my tv I have the option the play the sound with or without the receiver.

When it comes to digital signals it really doesn't matter if you use HDMI or optical cable as long as the signal gets to the source you'll have the same quality sound or picture.

That's why I asked him if he is gonna use his system only for movies or stereo music too.

Also agree with that but there is so much more goes in to that besides the location of the speaker just because sound bounces around the room.

I heard something awhile back about cross-talk degrading the signals in HDMI cables. I presume that might be the case with cheap HDMI cables, but not quality cables like Monster

              Oooh, their purty!

My buddy has some Martin Logan electrostatic speakers that cost him about the same. They sound incredible. When he first bought them he was waiting for his house to be built and was living in an apt so he couldn't even turn them up to enjoy them for any length of time.

Martin logan is gonna be my second choice.

My first choice is the polk audio LCI RST 100.
waiting on a final price first before I choose

Polk should be considerably cheaper. Justifiably so.

bowers and Wilkins are the speaker of choice for the recording industry. fact, not ignorance.

logan makes an expensive niche product that exist because some people have more money then sense.

are they better then most normal speakers? sure they are. but bowers is in its own league.
