Man wants wife's kidney back--or $1.5M

When Dr. Richard Batista's wife needed a kidney, he gave her one of his.

And now that Dawnell Batista has filed for a divorce, he wants it back.

If he can't get the kidney, his attorney, Dominic Barbara of Garden City, said Wednesday that his client wants $1.5 million -- which, he said, reflects in part the value of the kidney transplant.

Ethically, there is no doctor on earth who'd do the surgery to remove that kidney even if she wanted to give it back to him, so this is clearly a money case. This is going to set a very serious precedent...should be interesting.

well, they were divorced in 2005. My take on the story is that he gave her the kidney, but then they divorced. At which time he found out she had been cheating on him when they were married.

What seems petty to me, and I'm just being devil's advocate here; is that they have kids, and he is a VERY successful doctor, so you know he doesn't need the money. But, why does he feel the need to air all of this in front of his kids, AND furthermore- what message does that send to his kids about the mother of his children? "Your mom has to pay my rich ass $1.5mil, otherwise she dies".

They also said he's not asking his ex wife to actually PAY him the $1.5 mil, he's asking for a $1.5 mil less of a divorce settlement. There is also records he abused her, etc....there's 2 sides to every story.

Besides, when you DONATE an organ, you do not get to "take it back" whenever you want. You donate out of love, or whatever other reason. What the other person does is on them.

And furthermore, he wouldn't be asking for it back if he had donated his kidney to a stranger.

The guy knows he's not getting it back....but, not only is he publicly humiliating his ex wife, now he has to try and take back some of the divorce settlement money? Again- this is sending a GREAT message to his kids
