  • Obama signs executive order to close Guantanamo Bay

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- President Barack Obama issued four executive orders Thursday to demonstrate a clean break from the Bush administration on the war on terror, including one requiring that the U.S. military detention facility at Guantanamo Bay be closed within a year.

A second executive order formally bans torture by requiring that the Army field manual be used as the guide for terror interrogations. The order essentially ends the Bush administration's CIA program of enhanced interrogation methods.

A third executive order establishes an interagency task force to lead a systematic review of detention policies and procedures and a review of all individual cases.

A fourth executive order delays the trial of Ali al-Marri, a legal U.S. resident who has been contesting his detention for more than five years as an enemy combatant in a military brig without the government bringing any charges against him

I think many of our enemies will see this as a sign that America really is changing. IMO, that is a good thing, because many of those enemies are enemies because of our actions, not theirs..

No offense but that is a very naive and uninformed opinion.

Many of those enemies hate us for what we represent, not for anything we've done. They will hate us to their dying day. They've been fighting amongst their tribes and nations for thousands of years and that is with people that actually share common bonds with. For us they offer conversion or death.

see, you only see things one way. remove the bias for just one second..

i did not say all of our enemies. i said many. sure we have many other enemies that are truly bad people/governments.

if you cant admit your own mistakes you can never be big enough to change them.

          Fair enough.

We've made plenty of mistakes as a nation but I don't think a single one is justification for terrorism.

Terrorist organizations and the governments that support them don't follow the same structure we're familiar with. Their inspiration and reinforcement comes from a totaly different mindset. Just as you have to know what hand to offer so not to offend and what stance to take when approaching a tribal leader you must also know what will be taken as weakness and admission of defeat.

decadecadeca, you are from the south bro. you have been given racist genetics. you have deep hate for the north and how we think. you think of Abe Lincoln as a bad president. when are you going to accept that the north won the war, we are superior and we stand for whats right. accept that the north and the president that WE put in place is the right choice. realize that based on history, we know whats best...

and you also cannot bully the world, look down upon them, and have the view of "if you are not with us you are against us."
