i have a french mastiff and a boxer. both great dogs and very different.
the boxer if fun loving, great energy, and goofy. he always puts a smile on my face no matter what my mood.
the french mastiff however is very wise and generally serious about things. still very lovable an friendly but she is always on duty. you get the feeling someone is paying her to guard the house. lol. 4 am and a cricket makes a noise... watch out because she is diving through the wall to investigate! haha.

blue pits are awesome bro ,, boxers [which i have and love] , french mastiffs, english bulldogs-- all very smart dogs -- one of the smartest dogs is a black lab but i am not a lab guy --Originally posted by FrankTheTank55 View PostDo you have any other suggestions? I like those blue pitbulls but my daughter is afraid of Pitbulls. I was thinking of a Rott but I dont want a dog that drools all over the place. I dont want a long haired dog. If you know of any other breeds I should check out let me know. I dont plan on getting the dog until I have researched as much as I can and looked at alot of options.

Here is your dog, my favorite breed.:D
This distinctive breed may be one of the more recognizable types of dog in the world and if you mention the words Doberman Pinscher many people will immediately think of a guard dog with an aggressive, even vicious, temperament. Some of this is true since the Doberman was bred over the years to be a guard dog. However, experts will tell you that this elegant looking animal is not vicious. In fact, the Doberman makes a loyal companion to family members.
The Doberman Pinscher likes to be around people, and though most dogs of this breed are fearless and determined, they are not aggressive by nature. In fact, if socialized early by a good breeder and brought into a good family atmosphere, this breed can be excellent with children, even playful. Dobermans were bred in Germany by crossing German Pinschers with Rottweilers, Greyhounds, and other breeds.

Doberman's are great. My dad got one for our family when I was around 6-7. I remember that dog running to greet me and flat backing my ass on the ground.Originally posted by wnabeabeast View PostHere is your dog, my favorite breed.:D

A friend of mine has two ridgebacks. You really have to have time to run these dogs or they will get restless and possibly destructive. He jogs and rides his bike with his and they can really go. Cool looking dog, they are bigger than I thought they would be.
Personally I own a female Bullmastiff, she is the greatest dog I have ever owned. These dogs are great, very gentle with kids, very protective., very smart. Males tend to be more dog aggressive.
I would never own any other dog (outside the puny chihuahua we have). He still does not understand the bully is way to big to be his girl.
But with any dog, you put in the time and training it goes a long way. People give up on their dogs in the first year. However put in a good year and your dog will listen for life.

Well, after checking out a few different breeds we are going with the Ridgeback. Me and my daughter are doing a mini road trip in a few minutes to go see the pups. We seen pics online. The puppies wont be 8 weeks until Sunday but if we see one we like Im going to try to get him to let us take it home with us. Its only a four hour drive but I really dont want to make it again. Im on vacation this week and I would like to use that time to really help the dog get used to the house and the family and start the training. I dont know who is more excited me or the kids!!

Make sure you and your family have the time to put in with training the new puppy and do lots of research... Thats what I did as well as went to a private trainer when my boy got a little older. I get compliments often on how well he behaves and how obedient he is... especially cuz he is so big (about 130lbs now)
