They can get well over 1000lbs and damn near 10 ft tall. That's pretty damn big! I remember watching something on them being able to smell a seal that was 3ft under ice and 1 mile away.

Polar bears are the biggest bears in the world, bigger even than grizzlies. When they stand up on their hind feet they are almost 10 feet tall. I saw a plaster mold of a polar bear footprint in the zoo and it was the size of a dinner plate. Pretty impressive!!

Maybe, they say that Kodiaks and Polars are about the same size, but there have been Kodiaks recorded over 3000lbs and 14ft tall. Could you imagine???

You're right - the Kodiaks get really big too because of all the salmon they eat on Kodiak Island. I don't think brown bears get that big elsewhere.
