  • What today sounds like RTL or MOP?

    I have a hankering to listen to some metal again after a long time.... having been away from the scene for about 15 years, I don't really know the bands of today, but I know what I like.

    I am looking for the kind of sound that Metallica achieved on Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets - incredibly heavy but very musical at the same time - think For Whom the Bell Tools, Call of Ktulu, Sanitarium, etc..... I don't want the more thrashy raw sounds from say Kill Them All.... no death metal, noise core, etc.

    Any bands I should look for?

    Apocalyptica is very musical and they started their career doing Metalica covers. Only of the few songs have lyrics though, the rest is instrumental.

          I'll check them out.... I don't want any growling. I listened to Slipknot, etc. and while I liked the instrumental part, I need singing, even if it is the Hetfield kind.. lol...

              There's no replacement for Metallica, but Avenged Sevenfold and Godsmack (older stuff) are a couple of my favorites.

                  I gave Disturbed a listen online - pretty good stuff! I will try to listen to Avenged Sevenfold and Godsmack later. I already have the Pumpkins' music. Thanks for the recommendations!

                    Try Rise Against; it is musical but it comes in with some nice bursts of screaming;
