  • Abortion?

    With all the press lately on the death of the doctor performing late term abortions, some on women that had alledgedly got pregnant via rape and some girls as young as 10-14 where rape wasn't reported.

    Just wondered what peoples views were, clearly there are very powerful emotions connected to the subject.

    Personally I would love to have a kid right now and if I couldn't I'd consider adoption and it hurts to think of life being snuffed out. However if somebody raped my wife and she became pregnant and then some pro life activist tried to tell me we should keep the child I think I would tell him it was none of his business.

    Sensible debate please;

    i agree with you exactly.

    don't like to see an abortion so late in the pregnancy, but like you said rape or real young girls etc.. i think its best.

          doesn't that ultimately fit in the yes, but only up to 24 weeks, or dya think yes and even after 24 weeks?

            i think yes even after 24 weeks if its a rape, the baby has obvious physical or retardation problems, it could be serious health issues for the mother etc..

            then again, i dont see why those mothers couldn't have gotten an abortion much earlier then 24 weeks. i am sure there are many circumstances though.

              Sensitive topic, certainly no "right" or "wrong" answers. I'm pro-choice, but that doesn't mean I personally would do it. But I've also never been in a situation where I've even had to think about it. I've had friends do it, and I've understood why, etc. It really pisses me off to see picketers outside the clinics with the aborted fetus posters, etc. Most of the time, it's mostly men - that, I will never understand. A man will never feel the emotion of being in a predicament like those women are in often times. Why don't those jackasses make real use of their time and start fostering children, or volunteering in homes that raise retarded children/adults that nobody else wanted/or could care for?

                The abortions after 24 weeks are partial birth abortions. They have to literally start to deliver the baby, but "kill" it before it's "born." It would certainly be a rare occasion where someone did not know they were pregnant for 6 whole months, so I don't agree with those. Maybe a young child may not know, so there is always an exception to every rule.

                  I didnt even think about the 24 week thing when I voted i just voted yes. But I can see a reason on both sides for doing it and not doing it. I guess It would have to come down to each and every situtaion. I dont belive in anyone telling me what I can and cant do.

                      Every situation/person is different, which is why I said there is no right or wrong answer. Regardless of whether it is legal or not, it will be done, no doubt. May as well have professionals doing it than the alternative - which leads to infection, etc = taxpayer dollars.

                          I agree with you 100%. Abortions should always be legal. However, the government has no right funding them.

                            Oh they absolutely should not - then they'd be used as birth control.

                              If they didn't the poor would have to resort to back street abortions wouldn't they?
