          Thanks Mindstar, I stand corrected.

          Bouncer,

As you may know, the gods were the owners of things like fire, sun, love, thunder... This was how they explained thing until science taught us more. I feel one of it's downfalls was there were to many to hold a cohesive system, so as science showed how the unexplained happened it was easy to chip away at the gods.

thanks shib, well then if those kind of gods died from popular belief because of science, how come there are still Christians, Catholics, Islam, Jews, etc.. ?

because if they can believe in that stuff then i can be a zeuslic. :)

Why would an all powerful god use a book as medium to get his message across during a time when the majority of the world was illiterate?

It's hard to really know why and when it really started dying out. All the religions you listed (Catholics are all Christians but all Christians are not Catholic) are all sects, like sub divisions, of the Abrahamic religion. Just as Christains have, babtist, methodist, catholics... Jews have Reform, Orthodox, and Conservative... and Islam has sunni, Shi'a... It's all a matter of taste. Richard Dawkins refers to faith as an emotional placebo. Some (more like majority) people can't cope with simply not knowing and waiting to find out.

You would have to prove to me that it's a better life than being a pastafarian.

You can substitute meat sauce if you wish, the traditional communal meal is spaghetti with meatballs though. The great Flying Spaghetti Monster says it's ok to have substitutions, "I'm really not that vain".
