I would argue that the South isn't defined by geography, but rather by civil war associations. In that case, West Virginia is the south as well as Kentucky (kinda).

maryland is not south. it's the mid-atlantic. south actually starts in southern virginia. and west virginia is in a category in it's own.

but i understand where you're coming from. the one thing i HATE is when you're in virginia and someone says "yeah, i brought this [whatever] from down in new york." and i go "new york is north dumbass." anyone else have that issue?
