Freedom - No one is free

I'm listening to NPR and they had a guest who spoke about freedom. He has an interesting philosophy. I don't remember his name, but I'm continuing to look for the article. Anyway, he says that no one is free, until everyone in the world is free. He says you don't choose to be born in a country or nationality.

My friend and I talked about it and he agrees. I think the guy is a moron, I mean we're not free ANYWAY! Not to mention, if we lived in a country where we were free, we are free.

Thats not true, philosophically / politically? What type of free are you talking about. He was talking about political freedom. True freedom can be argued, but he had a pre-defined definition of freedom...

freedom is such a vast concept it absolutely has to be defined what type you mean by this. Personally in my opinion any freedom comes from within yourself when you chose to rid whatever has stopped that freedom from developing. But one thing I would say is freedom thinks purely for itself, otherwise the conflict between any other motive would control it.
