  • Ideas for a trip

Every summer my Dad and I take a week and go on vacation. When I was about 4 my Dad was in a really bad accident on the Girard Point bridge on I95 in Philly. So, ever since during that week he's taken me and my brother on a trip. My brother stopped coming in high school, but we still go. Well, this will be the 20th year and I feel like he's due a celebration for living that long. We've basically been to everywhere though. Europe, Africa, Australia, South America. Basically the only places we haven't been that he wants to go are Antarctica and Japan. Both things I can't really afford.

I am thinking of taking him a road trip to places where we have great memories and making a scavenger hunt. I have friends living in most of the areas we'd go, so I'd utilize them to hide the stupid clues. In the end, I'd like to end up back at the hospital where I was born.

is that really gay or would you PARENTS (aka stfu Bouncer :)) be something that you would really like?

i like the idea of a road trip and spending time doing things across the country.

but the scavenger hunt and hospital bit is gay. the hospitol i was born in was torn down like a year later, true story no bs.

I think it's great that you and your dad spend that quality time together. If you're not looking to spend a ton, I'm sure there are spots in the US or Canada that you haven't been to yet that would be interesting? North America is a huge place with vastly different areas, so there is no way you've seen it all yet. Perhaps post a list of the places you have been in North America, so people don't waste time suggesting places you've already been. After you post the list, I'll check for places I've been and enjoyed that aren't on the list, and make my suggestion then.

The hospital i was born in is still here and my Uncle was the head of surgery while I was born. I think its a cool idea.

I agree the scavenger hunt is gay, but I can't just drive him places for no definable purpose. That would be like any other weekend I make him spend with me.

how about setting up a single destination.. say New England and go fishing. take a day to get there, a day or 2 to hang out and a day to get back.

Places we have been in the US (as they pop into my mind):

Most of the North East is covered.
            Skiing in Vermont
            Berkshire Mts in summer
            Boston
            New York City
            Hamptons
            Buffalo
            Niagara Falls
            Basically all of PA
            Jersey Shore points
            DE shore points
            Outer Banks
            Hilton Head
            Charleston SC
            Spartansburg SC
            Tampa Miami, Keys, etc. Disney
            Baton Rouge
            Nashville
            St. Louis MO
            Chicago
            New Orleans
Basically all of Ohio when my brother was there, theres not that much to see
            Denver
            Colorado Springs
            Boulder
            Grand Teaton
            Yellowstone
            Grand Canyon
            Dallas/FT Worth
Some shore point on the Gulf of Mexico in Texas that is popular
            Four Points NM/AZ/UT/CO
            Mt. Rushmore
            Bridges of Madison Co, Iowa
            Redwood forests in CA
            Coastal Orgon
            San Francico
            Pebble Beach
            Los Angeles
            San Diego
            Las Vegas
            Big Bear Mountain, CA
            Lake Havasu AZ
            Pheoniz
We've been to resorts in CO and AZ that I can't remember the name of, but were tremendous fun.
Theres more, its just too much to think of. These are places either he and I have gone, or that we have gone as a family. If I state a city, the chances are we explored the surrounding area.

I thought about driving him down to Hilton Head to Golf. We'd be staying at his house though. Lame. He's not a fisher, but I like where you are going.

We've never been deep into Mountie Territory, but I don't see my father enjoying that. He is a US History buff, mostly why we've seen so much here. We've been to Canada, but nothing special.

What about cool tours where they make shit? Like Sam Adams plant tour?

You wouldn't find a tour of a brewery cool? It doesn't matter, I googled the brewery I wanted to take him to. Way too gay.
