Question about single mother term

I've heard it in terms of being single and raising children alone - I've also heard it used for single, living with relatives who support and help raise the kid/kids - I think it's just a variable - each case is different.

i've heeard used both ways but mostly a mother who is raising children alone. out of curiosity, why are you asking?

Simple curiosity. I hear it a lot when referring to and absentee dad, but occasionally I hear it when just referring to a single status. When I hear it I usually think about the absentee dad first.

My dad was really only ever home on weekends , so my mom would call herself a single parent at times. However, legally and financially she never was.

I say it as a single person raising my children alone. Of course they have a father, who supports them financially - but ultimately, I do everything on my own with them physically.

They spent almost 5 weeks with him this summer, and he flies down for business sometimes. Otherwise, it's hard since he lives 900+ miles away.

That's how it was with my dad once I went to live with my mom (she was remarried). I actually saw him more than my brother. Their relationship was so strained that my brother would find reasons not to visit with him even when he was in town.

Well I don't want to judge a woman who has the kids living with them, but the dad is very involved... I have heard a couple women at my work in this situation say they are a single mom.

i used to go see me dad every other weekend. my mom was still a single mom. it was just me and my mom in the house. thats a single mom asshole. lol
