just ran a test on Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test

download: 30 mbps

upload: 10 mbps

comcast.

Those are basic speed tests, I'm curious to see what type of consistent thru put you get while downloading or streaming large files. You're very lucky to have that kind of bandwidth from comcast they are really a sub par provider in most areas.

around the north east they seem to be faster then fios. i know fios is capable of much faster speeds they dont seem to allow the user that kind of speed around here.

I would need to see proof of that. FIOS is currently giving all of their customers 25 mbps down and 15 mbps up regardless of their purchased package. It's a nationwide, non advertised thing they are doing to test their network and bandwidth capabilities. Verizon FiOS is actually the only company not throttling/capping bandwidth. They have no need especially with their deployment of the GPON network.

i have seen it with my own eyes at my moms house.

her download speed was like 6 mbps down. maybe they didnt install it right?

in anycase, i have basic high speed cable and my average is like 20-25mbps down...

Try going to verizon.net/optimizesettings . If that does not resolve the issue of her not getting her subscribed speed then she needs to get a tech out there to clean the fiber at the house, terminal, and hub. If she still does not have her subscribed speed then there is a hardware issue and verizon needs to dispatch out to resolve it. Period.

If you are comfortable with configuring routers try installing dd-wrt software. It allows you to do a lot more than the default s/w on routers. I have it on my Linksys so I can set up multiple access points and crank up the transmit power from 28db to 241db. I can get my wireless internet from my house all the way to the marina which is about 6 blocks away!

If you are comfortable with configuring routers try installing dd-wrt software. It allows you to do a lot more than the default s/w on routers. I have it on my Linksys so I can set up multiple access points and crank up the transmit power from 28db to 241db. I can get my wireless internet from my house all the way to the marina which is about 6 blocks away!

I was condering IPCop because I heard it allows you to do it. He unplugged the router and plugged the computer directly into it. Ugh.

As for the why it kills my bandwidth, I have no idea. I had so many issues browsing last night until I blocked him.

Bouncer, he's hardcore into Transformers Toys. Its, uh, very odd to say the least cause he's 26. He sits there and watched people rant about the movies and transformers toys and all this other crap.
