  • New Jersey Town most expensive place to live in America

"Forget about West Palm Beach or Beverly Hills. The super-rich have a new favourite playground. A little-known cliff-top community in New Jersey has become the most expensive place to live in the US with lavish mansions on tree-lined boulevards commanding an average sale price of $4.14m (£2.5m)."

It's a passing fancy for the nouveau riche.

"The average property price fell 23% and only seven properties were sold last year, leaving a glut of several dozen mansions on the market."

People with actual wealth, not just "money" still know the real locales.

So, basically you want to move to an area with all the new money? Good luck living in an area with inflated prices and mansions that dont have any residents in them. Gladwyne and Wayne (Pa) will always be way nicer with money that goes back to the slave day. :)

can't be more expensive that Manhatton island surely, its probably due to transaction activity variance, there has to be transactions to form a solid opinion of value, otherwise its gueswork

"Alpine, N.J. (07620) tops our list with a median asking price of $4.14 million, prices there fell 23% over the past year. Atherton, Calif. (94027) is the nation's second most expensive ZIP code with a median asking price of $3.85 million, but prices there also declined by 23%. And New York's once-bohemian West Village neighborhood (10014) is by now fully gentrified, as demonstrated by its third-place finish and a $3.5 million median asking price. Still, over the past 12 months, prices in the West Village have fallen by 24%."
