  • Ubuntu (Bouncer?)

Anyone been playing around with Ubuntu (Linux based free operating system)?

I know Bouncer likes to check out different technologies and what not.

I'm downloading it now to check it out. I hear a lot of clients talk about it, but I've never had any desire or reason to look into, but what the hell...

Ubuntu is ok. I tried it. I like Mepis better.

I don't have any current experience with either one, but I've read a few things recently that suggest Ubuntu has less compatibility issues than MEPIS.

I'll end up checking that out too.

Hmmm... you know, I have always thought that Mepis was one of the best plug and play distros out there. I have never had a single hardware compatibility issue with Mepis. Anyway, you can get a bootable CD created and check it out - pretty nice.

I'm going to check both of them out.

Well 15 minutes into it and I'm already turned off. You have to download encoder packs to play mp3 (ok) did it, still doesn't work properly. Also, keyboard works when it wants to, programs lock up. It kills me with these Linux fan boys that talk all this shit about other OS' and about the "seemless" transition.

I'm still going to play around with it, but all the hype is thus far just that.

I put it on my older xp machine. I think part of the reason it might be flaky is because I didn't actually create a partition for it. I am just using it inside of windows at the moment.

You can't get around the fact that 95% of all hardware and software is designed around Windows.... It will continue to be an issue even tho an OS like Linux is much more stable...

I'm going to put it on an older pentium 2 laptop I have laying in the closet. Then I'll wipe it out and try Mepis later.
