  • VIDEO: BMW M3 GTS takes to the track

For a company that earned its reputation years ago as "the Ultimate Driving Machine," BMW's more recent efforts seem to have been based around inherently less sporty vehicle formats – SUVs and wonky looking crossovers, namely. Further, like most everyone else, the automaker's roadsters and sports coupes have been getting bigger and heavier with each passing generation. But now, fans of lighter weight and higher performance have something to look forward to once again.

Last week, the Bavarian automaker released details and photos (and even a short teaser video) of the new M3 GTS. The track-bred, street-legal super-coupe packs an engorged 4.4-liter V8 in a lightweight frame with all the trimmings for serious tail-sliding and hardcore curb-pouncing. And now they've released a pair of videos showing the asphalt-munching street monster doing its thing. Follow the jump to check 'em out.

    4.4L V8!!! Sounds sick.

Don't like the color, kind of stupid, not a fan of the wing. Also they weren't using manuals, it was the SMS shit. Still car is a beast, but i rather see it in a 6spd manual.

the wing is for racing. its a racing car.

as for the manual. i dont know what you people dont understand. performance cars are all moving to paddle shifters. they are simply faster on the street and faster around the track. hands on the wheel where they should be and feet on the brake and gas peddle like they should be.

still don't need a wing, a lip will do.

Paddle shifting is good yes, but i rather have them on supercars like the ZR1, GTR, etc...

Love throwing shift knobs around and popping clutches

a lip wont create enough down force on a car made for the track.

true, but than again how many people will buy this and than track it?

I prefer to drive it on the street and just have fun.

Definitely track it over the weekend or something. Push the car to its limit

You need to get up to a track if you think a wing isn't needed dna ;) - I wonder how many they will ship state side.

As stated a manual is not even close to being as fast as a real paddle shifter.
check the 0-60 times on the P-cars the auto smokes the manual. Just face it computers are faster than humans.

first gen smg m3s were .2 seconds slower naught to 60 - over the years computers have become faster than people as stated - still enjoy a gear box personally because im not a pro racecar driver and I enjoy being in touch with the car.
