Thats really cool vid, really comforting in alot of ways, doesn't explain the begining of the begining though, still leaves so many questions.Originally posted by THE BOUNCER View Postshibby, this is that video i wanted you to watch when your computer was fucked up.
YouTube - Carl Sagan - 'A Glorious Dawn' ft Stephen Hawking (Cosmos Remixed)
Example, how do you think the universe began? a big bang? so what was before the big bang?

the video doesn't really explain , just a neat vid.Originally posted by Mr incredible View PostThats really cool vid, really comforting in alot of ways, doesn't explain the begining of the begining though, still leaves so many questions.

yes the big bang. before that it was simply a very small and dense space about the size of a single atom. it couldn't contain itself anymore. and BOOM! like a nuclear reaction times infinity. it is thought that you can go down in scale well smaller then an atom on into infinity and on the other end of the scale you can go up, out past the universe etc..
the scale of the universe is to large for the human mind to grasp. if you traveled for 500 million years at the speed of light you would just be at the edge of our own galaxy the milky way. there are billions and billions of galaxys... and like wise on the reverse side of the coin, the scale of the very small is to small for the human mind to grasp.
we come out of time and space. a small blip on the radar is the earth and everything on it. we are absolutely nothing compared to the scale that it the universe, time, and distance.Last edited by Bouncer; 11-23-09, 05:23 PM.

so before the big bang the world was a very small space about the size of an atom? and where was this? what space did it occupy? as part of what?
Religion provides at least as comprehendable answer, thats the attraction, I just consider my ways christian and believe in a greater being, thats it really.
Love the science though, more so as I get older

no not the world. everything. everything that exists today as you know it was confined to a space to small for you to see. imagine something that dense. you really cant. like i said, the scale of these things are to much for us to grasp.Originally posted by Mr incredible View Postso before the big bang the world was a very small space about the size of an atom? and where was this? what space did it occupy? as part of what?

as for your comment "Religion provides at least as comprehendable answer". please see my signature.
people want to believe in religion because we want to think we have more meaning then we do. they want to believe we go up in the clouds after death and frollic around and sing all day because it comforts them. to this i say.. read the sig. :)Last edited by Bouncer; 11-23-09, 06:33 PM.

as much as i want to agree with you on this subject, i can never understand a single fucken thing you say. :pissed:Originally posted by Shibby View Postand George Lucas provides a comprehensible answer to what there is beyond our world.
What is the comprehensible answer to what god is, where he came from and why there is only one?

Seriously though, did you at least understand the George Lucas comparison?
The other part is explaining the questions with the unexplainable.

dude's got some nice things to say but without a genuine hypothesis of how the universe was created it's nothing new, we are all still clueless to it. If I start down that road I go padded room ocd style, for real.Originally posted by Mr incredible View PostThats really cool vid, really comforting in alot of ways, doesn't explain the begining of the begining though, still leaves so many questions.

i dont think we really are clueless to it. i think the scale of time and size of "everything" is so much larger then we know in human scale that we simply cannot understand it. its like trying to explain physics to a 2 year old. (humans being the 2 year old). the scale is beyond us.Originally posted by the art of war View Postdude's got some nice things to say but without a genuine hypothesis of how the universe was created it's nothing new, we are all still clueless to it. listen to this once more and really take it in. "if you traveled for 500 million years at the speed of light you would just be at the edge of our own galaxy the milky way. there are billions and billions of galaxys..."
do you understand how long 500 million years is? do you understand how fast the speed of light is? after all that we would still only be to the edge of our own galaxy.. let alone the billions of others.
again, trying to wrap your mind around something of that scale is something humans were not meant to do.

understand and agree with the rest of what you said - but what I quoted, is dead on bro. People make their lives so much more difficult when somethings are just better left alone. Besides dwelling on how the earth got made means you can't dwell on how to enjoy it as much :thumup:Originally posted by THE BOUNCER View Posttrying to wrap your mind around something of that scale is something humans were not meant to do.

something else to really take in and think about.
when you look up at the average star in the sky. you are seeing the star as it was on average of about 20,000 years ago. if that same star blew up today, we would not see it blowing up for 20,000 years.
looking into space in effect is looking into time. the further away you look the longer back in time you go.
really think about that.
