we pretty much know how the earth was made. i think you mean the universe.

the planets in our galaxy were made of a "cosmic soup" so to speak. a combination of light and heat from the sun, gravity, and the soup of dust, rock, ice pulled together and compacted. even that "simple" act in the scheme of the universe is beyond us. imagine the forces it takes to compact all of that "stuff".

Religion provides at least as comprehendable answer, thats the attraction, I just consider my ways christian and believe in a greater being, thats it really.

Love the science though, more so as I get older

this is a reassuring thread, in that yall are actually debating and not biting each others heads off just because of different opinions. And as far as the universes creation.. I tend to agree with most of what Bouncer has said. Our human minds cant comprehend such things. It not like we made the universe. To think we understand much of it is kindof being full of ourselves.

But I think as human beings we all really want to know the answers. Not knowing them is kindof scary, especially if youve been brought up in a religion to believe you have more waiting in the end. What created the universe? Was the consciousness before the universe was created? Is our universe a part of 'multiverses'? Are we the only forms of life? Is there a God? What if we are just like cells in a larger body, yet have eveolved to ironically understand our "human condition"? What does the edge of the universe look like? Are there limits to anything at all?

I would love to know the answers just as much as anyone else. But at the same time know that how we are now, thats just impossible. The fact that we even exist is truly impossible. Yet here we are.. I need a beer :hmm:

our galaxy will die in about 20 billion years when our sun burns out expands and blows up. the gravity of the sun will be lost along with heat and light.

while that is sad is some sense, there are billions of other galaxy's out there all with a sun of their own. statistically its almost a sure bet that some of the planets in those galaxy's have life.

we literally are the stuff of the universe bro. nothing more and nothing less. we are the size of atoms in the scale of the universe.

religion is nothing more then something that exist in the human imagination. it has no meaning or significance other then to humans. problem is, in the scheme of everything, humans are almost nothing at all.

Personally not knowing those answers don't scare me. Would I like to know? Of course. But not knowing the creation of the universe is no different than not knowing the creation of earth or not know the creation of the rock stuck in my shoe.
