stop preaching at my school!!

so here's the deal. almost every friday, there is this crazy man (not sure if he's a professor or what) but he preaches outside the chik-fil-a, right in the dead center of all the academic buildings. he's been doing it for as long as i've been here but it's pretty crazy. he talks so loud he doesn't need a megaphone and usually doesn't draw a crowd until our free-hour (no classes going on at this time). he just goes on and on about different topics. he's been out there for hours at a time and gets really emotionally into his preaches.

so this is my question. since this guy has been here for ages, it's obvious he isn't in any trouble. but do you think it's appropriate to preach in the middle of campus? we have an interfaith center where mass and sunday services are held as well as prayer ceremonies for all faiths, but is it appropriate for this guy to go outside of that?

point taken, but does he need to stand in the middle of academic row, creating a massive crowd? sure, he's allowed to preach, i'm sure the university would give him a lecture hall if he wanted, and i'm sure free of charge. i'm not against the random preaching, i'm saying is this the time and place for it?

I agree what ever he is saying he can say it somewhere else. I belive in freedom of speach but I dont like the fact someone can just get all loud and talk shit where ever they want.

Who decides what "shit is" you? me? bouncer? Either you are for freedom or you are for censorship. If he is not endangering the public what is the harm. You may have something to say on the street corner one day that you think is important do you want me to have you shut down cause I think you are "loud and talking shit"

again, this is not a street corner. this is a school. if people want to preach, there is a time and place for it. okay, fine, i'll give you that our "free hour" is free for all students and faculty, but this goes on for much past that allotted time. there are plenty of students that would love to use that space to sit in the semi-warm and enjoyable weather to sit and study outside on the tables, but hearing his bellowing voice preach isn't exactly an ideal situation to study in.

I actually dont care what they are saying. If I am sitting down eating lunch I dont want some ass yelling about starving children in africa or about reglion or anything i just wanna eat lunch. what the person is saying dont matter. Now if they are just talking in a normal tone then who cares but if they are yelling as DJB said that is not cool at all.

He's being counter productive to his cause. Let him be and he will destroy his own message. If you want to have fun with him, just hold up a picture(s) or something negative done in the name of whatever faith he is talking about.

I see that guy every friday when i walk to my 1pm class. Guy yells real loud about God and how humanity is bad and we should follow the "right" path.
Guy is nuts. If i was eating chic-fil-a outside and he was yelling, i would throw chicken nuggets at him.
Yes I believe in freedom of speech, but there is a time and place for preaching his shit, not a college campus where people are focused on their school work.

One of these days i am gonna walk up to him and yell, "GOD DOESN'T EXIST!" :D

in court - i can tell you this much - freedom of speach that insights hate / anger esp a violent act, is a tricky deal - it's normally not covered unless your lawyer is like jerry maguire.
