I have the proof of purchase on my car, but the RMV kept the title for some security reason (I honestly wasn't paying that much attention since the title is under my name stamped etc and I have the proof of purchase). So I'm wondering if selling it (will be to dealership) they can just take the proof of purchase etc and with that they can obtain the title independently. There is literally a 4 to 6 month waiting period for the tittle to be sent out. Pissed I managed to get myself in this spot but w/e - just need to know how it would work w/selling it to a dealer.

what the hell is a tittle? like a baby tit or something?
from what i know, i think dealerships can double check to make sure you still own the car and what not but they could still want the title. my grandfather owns a dealership and my uncle's a manager at one and they will not buy a car if the person does not have a title in hand to hand over. but i think it varies from dealer to dealer.

It varies from state to state. He needs to talk to someone in his state who had the same issue.Originally posted by dbjmofo View Postwhat the hell is a tittle? like a baby tit or something?

lotta reasons bro, there's a lot going on in my life right now and I don't need that car at this point, it's spoiling myself basically when I don't deserve to use the money i have like that, I'd prefer security in saving and take care of the things in life I have too in order to get on with aspects that I'm not content with.

Art I am pretty sure the RMV is not supposed to keep our titles, the only way someone should have the title other than you is if you have a loan out then the bank keeps the title till you pay the loan off. The title is the only thing that proves the car is yours, If I stole your title and put my name on it I could go to court and make you give me the car.

yeah, that's what I thought too dude - I dunno how the hell this all worked out this way, just totally fucked up I guess. The car never had a loan, so I'm just gonna go to the dealership and tell them to give me my title within 2-3 business days. Shouldn't be a problem, just don't need anymore random bullshit like this right now.Originally posted by Konitz View PostArt I am pretty sure the RMV is not supposed to keep our titles, the only way someone should have the title other than you is if you have a loan out then the bank keeps the title till you pay the loan off. not worth doing it - winter prices are brutal - car runs great / low miles - I'll jst use TT in snow. Thinkin bout taking it off insurance for a few months though, save me a lot. Title does come tomorrow though, which is nice, last thing I need is some technicality screwing me for not havin the title.
