American Muslims are Americans too...

I really liked that article. I like how they laid it out there and showed that these faiths have created some good people, but have also created the bad ones. I like how they show a little about the facts being facts, everything else is not and that's why it's all about interpretation. I agree that American Muslims are Americans; but Muslims in America are not (same goes for any current immigrant).

People who live their life according to a reasonable set of secular principles are immediately better citizens in any society than those who derive their moral values from religion.
I love this quote from one of my favorite scientists - Steven Weinberg, the Physics Nobel laureate from UT Austin:
“Religion is an insult to human dignity. With or without it, you'd have good people doing good things and evil people doing bad things, but for good people to do bad things, it takes religion.”

I would disagree with that also. While religion and belief can be a power motivator, it is steered a course based upon people in power. Those peoples fundamental moral compass is what provides for the actions being taken based upon religious belief--i.e. greed, hate, jealousy etc. have all been underlying currents that religious leaders have hidden throughout history while directing the masses who cling to the beliefs and leadership of their church.Last edited by funniirishman; 11-27-09, 08:48 AM.

brings up the nature vs. nurture debate. where we all born to be good/bad or is it the environment that makes us as such? and if we were born to be good/bad, why didn't god weed out the bad ones?Originally posted by Mr incredible View Post'but for good people to do bad things, it takes religion'

has to do with a combination of environment and brain structure/ personality etc..Originally posted by dbjmofo View Postbrings up the nature vs. nurture debate. where we all born to be good/bad or is it the environment that makes us as such? and if we were born to be good/bad, why didn't god weed out the bad ones?
lol @ god weeding out the bad ones. if god had anything to do with it, it means he would have created the "bad ones" and thus he is to blame! not us! :retard: bunch of idiots. lol
