  • Watts vs Power

I need someone that knows about stereo equiptment. If I have a receiver that put's out 100 watts per channel and I buy a subwoofer that is 50 watts (peaks at 100 watts) would it sound ok and will it not break down if the volume is too high. Or should I just shop around for a 100 watt subwoofer.

What do you think this is? A general topic forum or something?

      It is a general chat......

If the amp pushes 100w a channel, then you are probably going to run it bridged, which means combining the two channels. Check what Ohm load it pushes that power at. You are going to want the amp to run at about 100-150 watts bridged at 4ohms. The subwoofer if rated at 50watts rms can handle a 100-150w but it will be pushing it. You will hear distortion or popping if you turn the volume up to high. If this happens, just adjust the gain on the amp. HTH
