Why are apple mac laptops so expensive?

I don't get it, I can get a regular sony or something for £300 plus fully loaded yet the apple mac laptops start at £800, what gives teckies?

i think that it's because they don't shop around for parts like pcs. if you open up a mac and a pc you'll see that pcs have third-party parts and macs usually make their own thing other than processors which are bought exclusively from intel.

macs have thir place in the creative industry (clothing design, advertising, music) whereas pcs are more corporate based.

All wrong. You're paying for a better product. Apple computers are used alot for graphic design or all together simplicity. I have two of them myself that I use for editing my photos. Another thing is viruses. You do not need virus software for an Apple.

when you say you have two of them for editing photos, thats a pretty isolated and specific use, are they as good for mainstream activities, notwithstanding Bouncers comment about microsoft apps

i can run both mac OS and windows vista on my macbook pro. so technically i have 2 laptops as well. whenever i need to switch to the other OS, all i do is reboot. battery life and graphics are the same for both though. i have been through 2 macbooks and the older of the 2 works just as it did when i bought it even though it's almost 3 years old. and there is nothing my mac couldn't do when it came to comparing it to a pc. it's just knowing what you are doing.

but it all comes down to preference. pc's will always have a sort of upperhand in the sense that physically there is more to offer in terms of colors and keyboards and things of that sort. but in terms of hardware and how efficient they are, i feel like macs will have an upperhand.

People are just brain washed. You can do the same photo editing on pc too, computer doesn't do photo shop sofware does! You can buy the same adobe Photoshop sofware and install on either pc or mac and it'll do the same editing job, how do I know because I have it in my pc, because my fiancé does all of her own photo editing and she uses photoshop daily she even builds websites with her pc and she even does her music on pc too. Sony makes a sofware that is basically same as the protools that apple charges thousands of dollars, so like bouncer said if you wanna act like you are cool go a head and get the apple.

And one more thing if you don't wanna get virus don't surf the illegal porn sites and you'll be ok :D

I use them for everything. Granted I use a PC for work and I can use stuff on that I cannot use on my Mac. But I love using my macs more because they are not bogged down by viruses and ad ware.
