  • This is awesome

Don't know if any of you watch "Whale Wars", but this is real life example of what's going on. This is freaking awesome. Being on that catamaran when all this went down, or even when it doesn't- just being there trying to divert & hamper their attempts is definitely on my bucket list.

I love how at the bottom of this article the Japanese Fisheries Agency try to say they are killing the whales for research. Um, what exactly are they researching? :wack:

The Japanese government has convinced local fisherman that the whale and dolphin are pests that cause fish populations to dwindle. :wack:

Humans are going through the fish population at an astonishing rate, if we continue at this rate we will have some serious problems in the future.

Just a different example of how politics are inherently corrupt, at the end of the day everyone is just looking out for themselves and their own lifetime, why care about the future.

I'm going to have to agree to disagree here...it seems each of us are on opposite sides of the fence.

Supporting whaling in any form is pretty screwed up and I don't care whether this is cultural or whatever. Whales are one of the most intelligent creatures around and while I abhor violence in this context, disabling whalers is a justifiable use of force in my book.

Remember, we used to do this shit 100 years ago too, until we came to our senses and stopped.

To be honest I haven't really looked into it enough to be able to have a strong opinion either way. I just thought it was funny.

As for my opinion if the whales are reproducing at a rate where the hunting of them is not causing populations to dwindle then I'm all for allowing it. If they are being overfished then the practice should be regulated or stopped.

And almost as important, I wouldn't trust the info from the japanese killing them OR the environmentalists trying to stop them. It's too easy to manipulate data...

So we can kill tuna and eat them but not whales? We can eat cows but should we be allowed to hunt and eat dear? How about chickens and ducks?

And how can you say that whales are one of the most intelligent creatures? We know very little about them compared to most other life on this planet.

whales reproduce at a MUCH MUCH slower rate and are hugely important for the ocean. educate yourself before speaking dipshit.

I agree they shouldnt be harming the fish but there are so many other causes that I think should be getting air time then these people chaseing boats and theyre not changeing anything if their gov says its ok then nothing is going to stop them let alone a small ship of those people.

true they reproduce slower but they are also harvested at a much slower rate. If I'm the dipshit then maybe you can tell me how reproducing at a slower rate makes them somehow better and immune from human consumption.

dolphins, and while all are broadly considered intelligent, dolphins have generated much more attention than their relatives, which are much less observed and thus more difficult to study.

Conclusions about the nature and magnitude of dolphin intelligence have not yet been reached. There are many different species of dolphin (see the cetacea article for a full list) and generalizations can be easily misapplied. There are only a select few cetacean species that have been tested and live up to the ideal of dolphin intelligence.

... perhaps you should read the article before you link to it. This is from the first two paragraphs.
