So serious.
Does it really matter?
I could quote several famous philosophers, scientists, and educators who would say just the opposite regarding the vanity and hubris of man to question the existence of God.
How about you just tell us what YOU think, not what someone else said.

Hey, you were the one who brought up an irrelevant (and as it turns out, incorrect) detail about his sexualityOriginally posted by decadecadeca View PostSo serious.

I happen to believe that everything in the universe can be either explained to my satisfaction with science, or even if science cannot fully explain it today, doesn't need me to invoke a "God," benevolent or otherwise.
Prof. Weinberg and Dr. Richard Dawkins happen to espouse the same beliefs I hAppen to have, which is why I listed the quotes I did.
I view religion as a pointless activity, a waste of one's intellectual energy if you will. Actually I should be more precise. I view certain philosophies that derive from religion, like meditation, yoga, zen, etc. As uplifting intellectually. I however have no use for theology - this pointless pursuit of a higher entity or purpose in life.
People are of course free to pursue anything they want, as eccentric and illogical as it may be. It is their time, their energy, their money, etc. But when religion starts intruding into national policy, education and so on - that's when it stops being silly and starts being counterproductive.

Actually I don't. My belief is based purely on statistical probabilities. There are billions of stars even in our own galaxy and even if only a small percentage of them have planets that have the conditions that support life as we know it, there must be miilions of such planets. So purely from the standpoint of probability, it is likely that life could have developed elsewhere. And to the extent that intelligence is an evolutionary development, with enough time, some of this life elsewhere could certainly be intelligent. I don't have any rational basis to argue against it.Originally posted by decadecadeca View PostScrum,

chances are pretty low that we are the only intelligent life in the universe. when you take into account the sheer size of the universe. more galaxys in the universe then grains of sand on earth etc..Originally posted by decadecadeca View PostScrum,
