I think its disgusting that you Americans even consider to debate the direction of £100m government money between tradgedy struck Haiti and Detroit. Its probably a loan anyway coming from you lot!

Britain has pledged a whole £6m and I have no such quarms

here's something you should take into consideration. on the east coast, I-95 is built right along a fall line which can shift at any point. when driving along certain parts, one side is significantly higher than the other. you can sit on your horse but can your horse swim?

prelim estimates are at five hundred thousand and the total population is around nine million do the math and compare that to katrina where there was approx thirty five hundred lost in a population that numbers in a number i cant fathom at this moment and throw in that every life lost was in fact a person and not a number..its sad to the bone just like katrina but on a bigger scale..

i am with you but i understand the argument on the other side. how can you give money when in theory you dont have the money to give.. aka debt?

You're very very mistaken. Directly to your east is the ocean. If a natural disaster comes and push's water you will be flooded, and its going to cold water too. Hypothermia will settle if its in the winter time.

Not only that. What about the mountains to your west? What if the snow melts and glaciers come tumbling down. Water on both sides....

I sure do. Those poor dogs!

On a serious note, when I was in Korea there was a mudslide after 5 days of rain averaging an inch an hour. My team was set up on top of Mt. Myundai and half of it washed away in the middle of the night. At about 4 am I was woke up by a soldier covered in blood and mud saying we were missing personnel. After hours of searching through pouring rain, dense fog and pitch black we found 3 bodies out of the 24 that were missing.

The next day we found 1 more stuck in a tree still in his sleeping bag full of mud. They were 'my people' and it was devastating. As I said before, t is a tragedy simply because it has disrupted so many families, but on the other hand....at least we don't have to worry about them coming into our country illegally.
