Four arrested in gang-related Kingston killing
KINGSTON – Police in Kingston say they have four people in custody in connection with the Tuesday evening fatal shooting of a Charles C.J. King, 21, of Kingston.
Trevor Mattis, 22, of 10 Rinaldi Boulevard in Poughkeepsie is charged with shooting King once in the back of the head with a medium caliber handgun. Mattis is charged with first-degree murder and first-degree criminal use of a firearm.
One other person is being sought on a first-degree murder charge in connection with the killing, which occurred outside at 119 Cedar Street minutes before 7 p.m. on Tuesday, February 9.
Charged with criminal facilitation in the second degree, for allegedly aiding Mattis, are Jermaine Nichols, 22, of 57 Down Street in Kingston; Demetria Kelly, 20, of 33 Henry Street in Kingston and Amanda Miller, 18, of 1821 Bennewater Lane in Kingston.
Police Lt. Timothy Matthews said they do have motive in the city’s first homicide of the year.
“It is gang related and also the victim had been a witness in a prior criminal case in which he had testified against the brother of Trevor Mattis,” he said.
Mattis is being held in the Ulster County Jail without bail. The other three are being held in lieu of $250,000 cash bail or $500,000 bond.
Assisting in the investigation were Ulster County Sheriff’s Office, the URGENT task force, Town of Ulster Police, City of Poughkeepsie Police and the Ulster County District Attorney’s Office.
The victim was taken to Benedictine Hospital after being shot, where he was pronounced dead
