Regardless of all the crap you want to tie into this and label it as this or that, the fact remains these people are top notch, incredible and elite athletes competing on an international stage. And most of the sports are very entertaining to watch.

respect!Originally posted by the art of war View Postnah I don't - I have split views that don't add up correctly, I'm saying that. I completely respect the amount of time put into it .. I've seen it first hand w/cycling - insane. What I said was wrong, it was what I felt and I wrote it - wasn't right though. clear enough ?

so there are many things i see wrong with this statement. first, even though those "elite" sports you talk about attract those with more money it's probably because they require a bit more training than snowboarding. you can learn to be a good cyclist on your own because it's a matter of endurance and simple advancement of your own existing technique. speed skating, downhill skiing, figure skating, what have you, they actually require a lot of training. i know of a girl i went to school with who wanted to compete in figure skating. they weren't rich or elitist but her single mother did invest a good portion of her paycheck into paying for ballet lessons, skating lessons, gym memberships, and the skating attire (which isn't cheap) and anything she would ever need. i also know of a guy who is training for the US Olympic track team and he goes to the local high school track with his mom everyday. he doesn't have a trainer because he doesn't need anything but his two legs to run faster. he also doesn't need extravagent outfits, just some spandex shorts and a shirt and nice shoes. maybe $300 tops but he's not training much of anything else (he does free weight training in his basement with a family friend who's a trainer).Originally posted by the art of war View Postexplain to me what snowboarder wears spandex tight ass pants and guy liner around his eyes ? See you twist this shit. Speed skating is an "elite" sport - it attracts upper class liberal fags, end of story. Downhill skiing similar scenario, you have to live in the right place, right money, right hook ups, basically you have to be born and raised these sports. You ever talk to any of these dudes? Cyclists are the one people who I don't give a hard time (in jest sure, but that's it) because anyone can pick up a bike and start to try, you need special perks in life to be one of the above mentioned athletes. They can have it bro.
in the end, they seem like elitist sports because those people who can get the resources for training do so and it just so happens to be rich people. correlation does not mean causation!

and make no mistake, to be a cyclist on an Olympic type level takes ALOT of money as well. you dont simply pick up your huffy from the local walmart and go ride of into the sunset. lolOriginally posted by dbjmofo View Postso there are many things i see wrong with this statement. first, even though those "elite" sports you talk about attract those with more money it's probably because they require a bit more training than snowboarding. you can learn to be a good cyclist on your own because it's a matter of endurance and simple advancement of your own existing technique. speed skating, downhill skiing, figure skating, what have you, they actually require a lot of training. i know of a girl i went to school with who wanted to compete in figure skating. they weren't rich or elitist but her single mother did invest a good portion of her paycheck into paying for ballet lessons, skating lessons, gym memberships, and the skating attire (which isn't cheap) and anything she would ever need. i also know of a guy who is training for the US Olympic track team and he goes to the local high school track with his mom everyday. he doesn't have a trainer because he doesn't need anything but his two legs to run faster. he also doesn't need extravagent outfits, just some spandex shorts and a shirt and nice shoes. maybe $300 tops but he's not training much of anything else (he does free weight training in his basement with a family friend who's a trainer).

my boy spends 6 hours 5am-11am on his trainer, then does 50-100 miles a day depending on weather. He's only natural cyclists I know, he trains w/tyler hamilton who of course got caught doping.
Great kid, but fact of the matter is you cannot win in cycling w/out cheating. I saw one guy collapse at the start of a race, dead on the spot - had clen, d-amphetamine, eca for stimulants in him, let alone his drug cocktail of aas , hgh , epo. It sucks for my boy because he's a dude that literally started working at a local bike shop @ like 6-7 years old, took to teh sport and just busts his ass. He does well, has a nice place, RS4 wagon, ducatti, shitty gf who demands more. But the fact is when he competes in cycle cross where there are less drugs, it is a fucking joke how fast he is compared to the natural field. Cycle cross is bad ass btw .. kinda like rally with fred flintstone peddling two wheels.
