(CNN) -- Three people were killed and at least one was wounded Friday in a shooting at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, a spokesman for the university said.
A female shooting suspect was in custody, said the spokesman, Ray Garner.
A spokeswoman for Huntsville Hospital said it had received three patients in critical condition from the shooting.
Trent Willis, chief of staff to Mayor Tommy Battle, said the incident occurred about 4:15 p.m. in Shelby Hall, which police were still searching.
"We do have some witnesses," he said.
The 6-year-old, $60 million facility houses the Chemistry Department and is named for U.S. Sen. Richard Shelby of Alabama and his wife, Dr. Annette Shelby.

my friend at VT was talking about how students are now allowed to carry knives with a blade no longer than 10''. she said now the students want to be authorized to get concealed gun licenses on campus. she said if that ever went through she would transfer from there immediately.

Art the LTC is can't be used like that; you can only use it if you are cornered; so unless you were in a classroom with no way to get out then by law you cannot use your gun. Also, there are alot of places where you cannot carry.

Again - the job I'm working towards goes above the vast majority of laws regarding weapons - sure I couldn't go into a court room - but if I was told to be on a campus with it - no problem. I am not some gun toting lunatic, I hope it doesn't come across that way, I'm simply saying in this situation like many, rather have my gun than not..
