  • Going Back To School

Basically I now see that my Bachelor's Degree was a complete waste of time and I will never make any decent money with it. I'm guessing too many people get the degree and now it's worthless.

I am currently seeing about going into the Air Force as an officer, but IDK if they are going to let me in with my broken heel. Should be meeting up with a recruiter this week.

If that doesn't work I will go back to school for civil engineering. I was just seeing if any of you have had a degree and gone back for another one. Would I have to take all the bullshit regular curriculum classes or could I just go back and take all the classes pertaining to civil engineering only. Any tips or advice appreciated.

I believe you would just enter as a non-traditional student. You have a bachelors now and you are just going to get a different bachelors? If that is the case then at my school you don't retake all the "core" curriculum.

    What is your degree in?

I have a Bachelor's; double concentration in management and finance. I want to get a bachelor's in civil engineering you can much farther with a degree like that. And it would be something I am interested in.

Business management, finance and accounting are all fields predicted to experience huge growth this decade. MSN just had an article on this very topic.

And according to the latest census info less than 30% of the US has a bachelor's degree.

Make the jump to a master's degree and it's less than 10%.

It doesn't seem like your degree is worthless, maybe you just haven't marketed yourself very well?

My advice would be go back to school, but go back and get your MBA.

I have a huge ass scar and like 12 pins; Plus if anything ever happens it is better that you have told the government; imagine being disabled the rest of your life and getting no pay because you didn't tell the military you had a previous injury.

I talked to some people in the military and usually as long as you show you have a perfect union of the broken area and have your proper range of motion it should not be a problem. Who knows I will find out this week.

Honestly part of my decision comes from the fact that I don't really like the work. I enjoy creating things; and engineering would be a good outlet for that I like to be able to look back at something I contributed to and take pride not just type on a computer all day.

My father is a civil engineer, and he is very happy. He works for the state government and if he ever leaves, he will probably work for a private company that is contracted by the government.
