  • Top gear episode.

I have become an addict of this show. just saw the episode where they go to miami and each buy a car for 1k. Not sure how old the episode is. They end up driving to new orleans with "man love rules ok" and "hilary for president" painted on their cars. They stop for gas in some hick town and get rocks thrown at them and nearly get heir asses kicked lmao. Can't believe a year after katrina the place still looks like that. They mentioned how shocked they were that 1 year after katrina the place still looked the same. Pretty poor for one of the richest countries in the world.

I think that was season 10, so like 2 years ago.

I remember watching that episode and them almost being killed. You have to understand though that New Orleans is a city that was built below sea level. No sort of drainage or basements or anything up to date for that matter in most parts of the city. When Katrina hit, it destroyed that city almost to the point of Haiti.

The thing that most people don't understand from other countries is that the US is not there to pretty much rebuild a city like that. They will help out as much as they can, but not do everything for us. I don't want to start a politics debate, but they're always there to help out other before their own.

We had a discussion in college when Katrina hit and my teacher argued the topic quite well, and I agree if you are dumb enough to live in a city were you have to look up to see the ocean you deserve no help if the walls come crashing in, both literally and figuratively.

From what i saw it wasn't really a drainage issue. The house's and building still looked the same as if the hurricane had just hit. Roofs caved in etc. Its obvious the people there don't have the money or resources to do anything themselves, even if they did, at what point does the goverment go in and do their part. I bad mouth the australian goverment all the time but that would never happen here.

the only episode i saw in its entirety was the one where they race across the arctic circle to see if dog sleds were better or a snowmobile/truck. my uncle was watching with me and he is now addicted even though he doesn't like the "rich bastard accent."

as for the katrina issue, i agree with kontiz. it's bound to happen when a city is way below sea level.

When the hurricane hit there was a drainage issue. Once the levee broke, that city was under water by at least 3 feet. Most areas you needed a boat to get around. That lead to further disaster.

everyone does bro, once you watch it a few times you will be addicted.

that episode you were watching is actually one of the weaker episodes.

wait until you see the africa special, polar special, best driving roads in the worlds episodes, and the "make your car into a boat car" episode. fucken epic.

                you want the brutal truth?

its a poor section of a poor state in the deep south. people pretty much forgot about them.

that type of shit would never happen in NY, Cali, etc..

the rich parts of new Orleans are all back and perfect. sana was down there about 3 months ago and said it was beautiful.

                  Like what?

MORE free housing, MORE welfare, MORE free medical care, etc....?

NOLA was a shit hole before and it's still a shit hole. Those people are used to having everything handed to them, it's a welfare mentality from cradle to grave. Entire generations having never been employed or worked a day in their lives.

You can drive a few hours away to parts of Alabama that were hit just as hard and you would never know a storm had been there. The difference? The community got out and did the work themselves. They cleared roads, hauled off limbs and debris, pitched in and rebuilt their town like contributing citizens.

Oh and if the roles were reversed and they tried driving thru parts of Chicago or Detroit do you really think it would've been any different?

I didn't mean to offend you if you are a hick. :) Seriously though, seeing that was like watching something from 100 years ago. Im talking about the anti gay bit. Sure over here you get people who are anti gay and would be violent towards gays but you would never find a whole town or community that would all be "anti gay"
