  • Random Transmission question

I know Pump Dog said he worked on cars but have not seen him post in a while; see if anyone else works on cars.

So I did a total rebuild on a TH400 and installed a TCI full manual valvebody with compression braking. I have fluid leaking out the vent line I think I have a cross-leak in the pump.

    Anyone got a clue?

This is only second one I built; the automatic transmission is basically the final summit of automotive experience from what everyone says; if you can build one of those everything else is simple; so much stuff in there it unbelievable.

I cannot even imagine how somebody thought this thing up; Look at the parts breakdown:

Sorry bro I have no clue, like you said transmission is a different monster on it's own. But I like the compression brake idea tho. :)

The compression brake is great; you can downshift like a standard; way less braking needing to be used.

Yep agreed, compression brake was around way before the fancy tiptronics we have these days. :)

It is shifting gears and engaging fine, it is just this stupid leak; gonna pull the pump out of it tomorrow; I am pretty sure that is where the problem is.

Maybe its a gasket and/or seal that went bad

Im guessing surface is not flush and since I bumped up the internal pressure quite a bit I think fluid is slipping past the seal, I have another pump so I am going to switch internals and see how that goes.

i know when my car doesn't sound right and when to get the oil changed. i even know how to pump my own gas. talk to me about fixing cars or modifying them, i will ask a lot of questions but i'll learn.
