  • The Mafia today

Over Easter we went to Indiana...and there is this great pizza place there. Truly authentic Italian, family owned... ;). Come to find out (and I was always suspicious) that the family who owns it is the head of the Mafia in a town closeby...

So, my question is- what does the Mafia really do anymore? What are they really involved with organized crime anymore? Or, are they just there mostly has a scare tactic?

they do what they used to do back before all the showboats characters brought them into the public eye.

behind the scenes, money laundering, loans, weapons sales etc.. its set up to make money. the less they are in the public eye, the better.

The mafia runs my town; One of the big guys is a cars salesman you would never know the better that he runs the whole town.

I remember the guy that used to own a lumber yard couldn't pay the mob back and they pulled out all his teeth with pliers.

and most Italian mob run places are actually legitimate places, not just fronts for criminal activity. lot of these guys started the buisness with mob made money but once they are up and running they pretty much get out of all that.

From what I know the Mafia is completely different. I think they are selling drugs now, but back than that was forbidden.

from what I've seen on documentaries the ole cosa nostra is pretty much wiped out of Sicily now, The Camorra of Naples is the big problem, much more voilent and less morals than the traditional original cosa nostra that started as a few families. In 2004 the Camorra of Naples literally took the police hostage and the whole neighborhood turned on the cops as they tried to arrest the mafia leader.

In the US wouldn't know but the problem these days is that every prick has a gun and thinks he's a gangsta
