Analyzing an argument usually doesn't involve looking for black and white questions and answer segments. Their advisers/coaches have are extremely talented in the craft of argument, they would never let it get to simple questions and answers.

For my purpose, analyzing an argument means I am looking for a claim, evidence grounding the claim, analysis of why the evidence is relvenat to the claim, and a conclusion. The debate never gets that far. They jump from topic to topic, mainly bashing the other side

I couldn't. I used a rant from a blog I found that says why Spiderman is the greatest superhero. It was more coherent than eother VP canidate

oh man. i took a class in reasoning and the whole premise/conclusion/inductive/deductive crap. i went to class for about 4 weeks. i couldn't take it. i would take copious notes, study for hours and then bomb the quiz. not worth my time.

My class is debate. Reasoning is included, but we don't go heavy into inductive and deductive. The class actually taught me ti write better with its clam,rules, analysis, conclusion template. A straight reasoning class does not sound like fun

definitely was not.

i think taking any sort of philosophy class would teach you how to debate. the only thing i took out of my reasoning class was the Principle of Charity. i also did mock trial in high school and i was always the defense attorney. i remember the only case i lost was my first one and we got the charges dropped from manslaughter to justifiable homicide.
