No cash allowed at Apple Stores
to sum up, some lady on welfare/disability was saving up to buy an ipad only to learn that you have to pay by credit/debit card to get it. she was upset and the treasury department states that it is up to the retailer to reserve the rights in terms of what way they collect money.
i understand where apple stands. they want to "monitor" ipad (and iphone) purchases to make sure people aren't exporting overseas and if they are they can be tracked. and the article mentions that itunes is required to activate any device and to have a valid itunes account you need to tether a credit card to it.
but is it right to do that? cash is legal tender. it isn't hard to go get a credit card made. mastercard and visa have "credit/debit cards" you can get from drug stores and are valid anywhere. but should they turn down cash? it's all the same.
but in apple's defense, they don't want to keep that much in store. they are already packing thousands upon thousands of dollars in merchandise in-store and their working models are also an issue. having cash would be over the top and would also hinder the purchasing streamline they have going (you can pick a product, tell the person what you want and an associate who carries this UPS scanner thing scans the order and it takes 2 seconds, they can even email the receipt instead of or in accessory to printing it from printers placed all over the store).
but what do you guys think?
