Hey DNA, where to stay in DC?

Thinking of coming to NYC and DC for a sightseeing trip this summer.... where's a decent place to stay in/around DC?

The last time I was there (about 20 years ago) for work, I stayed in Rockville and took the subway to the memorials and the museums. It was really convenient but I don't know if there are better places that are closer and don't cost an arm and a leg.

Don't get a hotel inside the city. Very expensive. Bethesda and Rockville are great places to stay, they're about 15 minutes out of DC and you can take the metro inside the city and go sight seeing. Are you coming alone or with your family?

yea no problem. Are you guys flying in BWI, National, or Dulles? Summer's here are hot and humid. So be prepared.

We'll probably fly into NYC and then drive to DC. Haven't finalized plans yet - have to decide between DC and Niagara Falls. I've also got family in Boston who'll be pissed if we came all the way there and didn't stop by and visit, so our plans are still not finalized.

niagara is better to see if you go to the canadian side. the US is crap. the canadian side has museums, duty-free (tax free) shopping, ripley's studio/museum, hershey store.

the us side is nothing but hotels and a hot air balloon tied to a string.
