I talked my friend who is a BMW Tech, he said most likely your motor is gone. Drain the oil and see how much water comes out. By the drain plug, take a magnetic and see how much metal pieces you can get by the drain hole. If its a lot, its gone.

Oh and btw...you flooded the engine when you drove into that puddle. Your lucky though because you can buy S52's real cheap with miles, and since they don't have individual throttle bodies and are basically a stormed M52 they last forever. They aren't nearly as tempramental as real M engines...
