Knowledge evolves. The more we are able to observe the more we can learn. Anyone watch the TV show Fringe? Basically there are parallel universes. One much more technologically advanced than the other. While the world "we" live in is the lesser of the two universes, it was a scientist in our world crossing over that created a chain reaction of catastrophic events in the other universe. These events allowed the other universe to advance technology at a much higher rate, because they were observing much more complex events.

My point is, as frustrating as human destruction of our planet is, it also motivates us to take our intelligence further. Events that are caused by our existence on this planet also creates new events for us to learn from.

does it motivate us though? do we learn from events? seems to me that history repeats itself over an over again.

True, I guess I should say it motivates a few. The rest just reap the rewards of others hard work and continue to be apathetic. :agreed:
