What makes you, and others, against speaking English the way it was meant to be? I'm asking seriously, not just when you are drunk, what comes from speaking slang and being unintelligible?

It is funny you say that. I had a discussion (albeiit after a few drinks) last night about this. When I text, I typically do not use slang/shorthand. It drives some of my friends nuts. I find that it helps keep my writing sharpOriginally posted by Shibby View PostWhat makes you, and others, against speaking English the way it was meant to be? I never text shorthand or anything. I can see how some people may do it with a standard phone, but having a blackberry makes it easy for me to type everything out.Originally posted by alwaysgrowing View PostIt is funny you say that. bro have useen how i talk period ? I don't feel very smart period, it sucks enoguh - so when im drinking last thing i care about is thinking if i sound stupid, im just relaxing.Originally posted by Shibby View PostIt doesn't offend me lol, I just never understood the appeal. I always felt like an idiot, uneducated and had nothing relevant to say when I tried talking like that. So it makes me curious that so many people do talk that way.

Maybe a good majority of 24 year olds that do not have respect for themselves, but not myself and many others. It is very sad what is being done to the American vocabulary.Originally posted by Shibby View PostGood majority do yes. I'm asking beyond just the mainstream effect. I'm asking on a personal level, "Why?", because it just never worked it's way into my speech or ever had reason to me.

white niggers or as i like to say wiggers -- i cant stand it !!!!!! they have the hat to the side etc etc etc -- i will tell a white guy talking wiggerish to get the fuck away from me .....Originally posted by Shibby View PostI know a lot of it comes from the rap culture and being "hard", "gangster", "cool"... but is it a desire to idolize and imitate gangsters, drug dealers and life in the ghetto?

Wait, what? How could the environment that you were exposed to differ so drastically from those of your family? So, your parents and siblings all went on to get PhD's or some other form of higher education? Are you significantly younger than everyone else?Originally posted by the art of war View Postjust how i was brought up my dude - like , my netire family is very very educated absurd amounts of PHDs and degrees - same w/my brother and step sister.
