              Oakwood Plaza Apartments
380 Irvington Ave, Elizabeth, NJ 07208

Oakwood Plaza is a drug-dealer and bed bug-infested environment. It is subsidized housing, but many of the tenants are stuck there because they cannot afford to live elsewhere. This "Community" is not appropriate to raise a morally fit family. I lived there several years, and I don't recommend any decent person live there. It's a depressing environment for those who adore peace, quiet and cleanliness. It may look nice on the outside but don't be fooled. The elevators don't often work in some or all the buildings, there are drug dealers in the stairwells (the one that is open), some apts. have bed bugs, the stairwells in some buildings tend to be filthy when it's NOT inspection time, and there have been many complaints about loud music vibrating the walls of its victims. If you want to be happy, don't move to Oakwood in Elizabeth! PS the waiting list is about four to five years long. Surrounding neighborhood is very decent, only the "Community" sucks.

Renter/Father shot in the FACE! from the Star Ledger:
ELIZABETH -- Authorities in Union County are searching for the teenager they say is responsible for fatally shooting a father of two in the face in the hallway of an Elizabeth apartment building last month.
An arrest warrant has been issued for Laquan Harris, 18, of Elizabeth for the homicide at the Oakwood Plaza apartments on Irvington Avenue, the Union County Prosecutor's Office announced today. He should be considered armed and dangerous, authorities said.
Antonio Davis, 28, was shot once at about 8:10 p.m. in a first-floor hallway of a five-story, brick building in the complex on April 13, police said. He died after being transported by ambulance to University Hospital in Newark.
Police responded to the building, a site of violent and drug-related incidents in the past, after receiving several calls from residents who heard what sounded like a gunshot in the hallway, authorities said.
