This guy is a dick and an idiot. Public school needs a lot of changes. Simply making it longer is not going to help. Broaden the cirriculum a bit and stop cramming the same standard crap down their throats just so they can all pass the same standardized test. And would it kill them to start teaching a personal finance class sometime in high school? (Learning a bit about money might have helped us avoid the shitty economic situation we are in) Kids shouldn't learn what a credit score is from a singing pirate on a commercial.
Not to mention longer school days and shorter summers is going to make America's obesity problem much, much worse....
Longer School Year May be Costly - WDAF

KANSAS CITY, MO. - In the near future your children may be faced with longer school days and shorter summers. That is the message President Barack Obama is sending, stating that school districts need to make a change.
The president is pointing to the fact that students in the United States attend classes about a month less than children in most other advanced countries. In the past, children had longer summer vacations because they had to work on the family farm. That is not the case now and the president says that is why the U.S. needs to make the change so kids can catch up with their peers in other parts of the world.
The president is not talking specifics just yet, as far as how much longer the school year would last. But there are a lot of people concerned about what this will do for school districts who are already cash strapped.
Currently many U.S. Schools are in session for about 197 days. If you add extra days that means adding the cost of teachers, of running the buildings and cost for transportation.
FOX 4 spoke to two districts closer to home to see what they think about this whole idea. The Kansas City Kansas School district said they're not crunching the numbers just yet. They said the total will be outrageous and said it's hard enough keeping schools funded during a normal year and that adding additional days will be close to impossible.
The Lawrence School District is estimating the additional days could run them about $6 to 7 million more. Districts feel that may be a low estimate and it would likely cost more.
