  • Why is all fast food unhealthy?

We all know America is full of fatties who love burgers, cookies, ice cream, and their couches. But there are a TON of people that that would love to eat healthy, and succomb to the fast few chains simply because of their hectic schedules, too tired to cook, etc. It seems like there is a huge untapped market for a fast food restaurants offering healthy options.

(And just to be clear, I'm not talking about the weird hippie places with creepy smells and tofu. I'm talking about somewhere you can go get legit grilled chicken, actual vegetables, rice, sweet potato, etc.)

Right now the only place I can get something like that in somewhat of a hurry is the local Whole Foods Market. But even then I have to spend about 20 minutes in the store, and pay like 10 bucks for a plate, and deal with the traffic on my way out. (At this point I might as well just have gone home and cooked myself)

Anyone else wonder why no one has really gone this route yet? Anyone with a place like this in their town? Granted most people on this board would still cook at home 90% of the time, but all of us can admit having the option of a quick $5 meal of chicken, veggies, and sweet potato through a drive through would be useful sometimes.

I think the "middle of the road" crowd would frequent a place like this.

    Opinions?

there are tons of places like that all over the country. you know who goes there? people who are all ready in shape and healthy.

we have these all over jersey. Muscle Maker Grill :: "Great Food with Your Health in Mind"

fat people will tell you, "its my only option to eat at McDonald" as they pass right by the salad bar.

hell i can eat healthy anywhere, take mcdonalds for example. i get 2 grilled chicken, no mayo on a wheat bun with lettuce and tomato. what would the fat slob order you ask... burger, fries, soda because "it is there only option".

That is exactly what I am talking about! There is nothing like that in the entire state of South Carolina! The closest we have are the southern "meat and three" style places. Not exactly the same niche as truly promoting yourself as a FAST and HEALTHY option.

      Business idea??? :hibb:

It's not a good business idea, especially in the south because people won't eat it. Also the biggest issue here is price. Most, fat, unhealthy people who eat fast food are also either poor or extremely cheap bastards, and if you offer more healthy items that are actually fresh and not saturated with preservatives and sodium, they won't sell. Most people live off the dollar menu's at these places.

just need to make sure there is a market for it down there. in jersey every other person works out and there is a huge market for that type of thing.

I do get what you are saying, but the town I live in has a huge fitness following especially among the upper-middle class suburbia crowd. (Who will be buying for 4 not 1)

there are certainly areas where it might work.

some of the most successful places start out with everyone telling them they will fail.

so if you want to do it and are willing to work hard at it i say go for it.

I'm looking to get into something. I have realizedl life is too short to be sitting in a cubicle all day. I'd rather say I took a shot at something and missed than I just played it safe and got by living paycheck to paycheck my whole life.

I wonder if there may be some kind of survey I can do throughout my town to see how much interest there would be in something like this.

go for it bro. just be smart about it, its definitely a specialty type business.

even those muscle maker grills that i showed you, i never go to, i make my own food. so you are really dealing with a small market, it will be tricky.

many many many many people say this, but very few actually do anything about it. Go for it, be different. If you fail, who cares.

You can't develop the production of a simple healthy food without a higher cost. The reason all the fast food chains are cheap is because they skimp on quality. Everything is ran through computer and machines for the most part. Fresh food takes a lot more human work.

Also as Bouncer said, the people you are trying to pull in may not frequent the restaurant enough to break your overhead. Most people have cooking fresh food built into their schedule, so going to a place like mentioned would be sporadic.

i think it's what a lot of people in my family say. "why pay more to go out and eat healthy when you can save a few bucks and cook the same stuff at home?"

These type of places can work if you are in a city invironment and have lots of foot traffic going by all day. If it's a place people have to go out of there way to get too it won't work.

some people have jobs and very busy lives and don't just sit home all day cooking.

Bingo! You have the right idea Bouncer. You can make the best of some places you eat out.
