I went there around that same time the Christmas before last...great timing. Lots of hockey to bet on, and two bowl games.

Rates in vegas are all over the place, it depends on what you want.
I like Treasure Island because it is middle of the strip and you can walk to most of casinos in ten minutes, ie, don't need a cab.
The rooms are very nice, food is excellent, and service is great and casino is classy and most people at casino are staying there, you don't get a lot of rif-raff per say.
It is also has more of an upper middle class crowd say from 30-45.

The good active sports books are in the good active casino's.
ie, if you stay at low priced hotel they will not have sports book, and then you will have trapse all over to find one
If the gents are older, and still like to look at women, then as hitman said.
Good sports books are Mirage, MGM, Treasure Island, New York New York, Monte Carlo, all of them newer hotels, nice place to hang and they take care of you, and you will get the correct odds.
Obviously shop on the internet and call some places if you can, in general prices will vary from about 280-450 per person with flight, depending on how nice a room you want, double occupance, and your flight time.
You will get a good rate cause you are staying over sunday and monday, those are slow nights and they would rather have you their than not.
Also, that week is a slow week, they will cut room rates if you shop.
Less expensive places Circus Circus, Excalibur, & Frontier Stardust. All good just not as nice as others.
Room rate will be cheap thursday, sunday and monday, they will raise it on fri. & sat. due to higher traffic.
PS-If quality and fun is more important than money, I'd suggest one of hotels I mentioned within your budget. Otherwise you get what you pay for, beat up room and under cooked food, been there done that.
