  • Weed in California

So I just saw that this didn't pass. I'm across the country, but I'm still a little bummed out. I'm sure if we saw the positive effects that might have ensued, other states would have taken notice.

I was actually very surprised it didn't pass. Every comment on every article was in favor of it. Every interview I saw on TV was in favor of it. I guess it was the older population that silently came in and voted against it.

I can't really understand the argument against it. Honestly, even if it was legal, I personally wouldn't smoke it that much, if ever. But all of the anti-marijuana propoganda really doesn't hold up IMO.

Coming to work high? (Alcohol is legal. See how long you keep your job if you show up to work drunk.)

Driving high? (Not the same at all as driving drunk. Driving high on marijuana is safer than driving drunk, tired, while texting, while on the phone, while playing with the radio, etc. Plus just as it is illegal to drive after drinking, I'm sure driving after smoking weed would be illegal too)

Increase in teen use? (100% Bullshit. Teens use it now because it is easier to get from your local drug dealer than it would be from a convenient store if you had to be 18.)

Gateway drug? (Personally I think this is a myth. I know tons of people that smoke weed that never moved on to anything else. I also have met a few people who have tried cocaine, heroin, meth, etc. that never smoked weed. But even if the gateway drug thing holds water, its because Marijuana is classified in the same category as cocaine, heroin, etc. If it was legal, it would SEEM like a much bigger jump to go from Marijuana to Cocaine than it is at the moment. Plus you would be getting marijuana from a drug store instead of the same drug dealer that sells everything else.)

This is just my thought for the day. I really can't see any good reason why this prohibition should continue. But then again, we are in America. The same country where a 20 year old can serve in the Military but not have a beer. The same country that can show suicides on youtube but not a female nipple. And it seems like the same country that will continue to miss out on billions in potential tax dollars and spend billions more locking people up for smoking joints and watching Comedy Central in peace.

we talked about this in my addictions class last night and even my professor was hoping it would pass. he's worked with hundreds of addicts and not one of them was addicted to marijuana. i honestly don't see any issue with it whatsoever. every person that i know of has at least tried it. it's already readily available. i don't know why they can't just sign a piece of paper saying that it's alright in the legal book. :dunno:

Exactly. Old people are so convinced marijuana is like this:

YouTube - Above the Influence "Hurt"

Check out the description in this video. "By the time you finish watching this video, 125 teenagers will have died from Marijuana overdose."

The only deaths that happen from Marijuana come from the violence associated with it being an illegal drug.

Just have to wait for the old fucks to die off, what I don't get is if it violates federal law how can they make it legal in any state??? Idk I'm no lawyer just don't make sense. I don't think it matters one way or the other you can still get it just as easy if it was legal...

If a state makes it legal, the police, both local and state, wouldn't bust you for possession. The feds still can. But the DEA is not going to go after someone who is selling an ounce of weed a week nor someone who is smoking a couple of times per week. It doesn't make sense for them to waste their resources on such. Thus they focus on bigger fish.

Although, the feds have been known to go after "legal" state dealers if they get complaints from residents

Makes sense to spend billions fighting a "war" on drugs, and spend millions giving out legal drugs, while our educational and financial systems crash. Glad election day has passed, stupid republicans now in control, it means more of the same. Two party system must end, it is just a way to make voting more simple for moronic Americans. If you vote for a party you are a fucking idiot.
