Gran Turismo 5 v1.03 Update Brings Mechanical Damage

"Fire up Gran Turismo 5 and you’ll be prompted to download another new update, version 1.03, weighing in at 149MB in size.

As can be seen in the online “My Lounge” options for an online race, a new “Mechanical Damage” setting is available for the event with three settings, as described by the scrolling information bar on the bottom of the screen:

“None” – No mechanical damage.
“Light” – Mechanical parts can be damaged, but will “automatically be repaired after a short time has passed.”
“Heavy” – Mechanical damage will be more severe, and can only be repaired by making a pit stop. Damaged parts will be indicated with on-screen icons."

i guess they are releasing updates as they become available instead of waiting for a big update to add lots of things. which is good because big updates take a long time. this way we can have small little things added every few weeks.

its pretty much been confirmed that the game was forced to ship by sony before it was fully completed.

so expect at least 1 update every 2 weeks or so to add features and fix problems.

as long as they keep improving and adding features i am a happy guy.

after all features and fixes are done, they will start releasing downloadable content with more tracks, cars, etc.. will probably be in the form of $10 expansion packs. i will gladly pay to have all the formula 1 tracks.

Games releasing before "finished" has become the new standard, but they have been working on GT5 for 10 years. I would expect it to be complete.

A new update has been released for Gran Turismo 5.
The main contents of the update are as follows:

Seasonal Events
[Seasonal Events] have been added to the upper left side of the [GT Mode] - [GT Life] screen. From here you can participate in official online events from the Polyphony Digital team. In these events, all participants under the same regulations, and if you complete the event you will win rewards and experience. In Time Trials and Drift Trials, compete on the leader boards with players around the world.

Online Dealership
An [Online Dealership] has been added to the left center of the screen. In here you will find popular and rare used cars. You might just come across that one car you've always been looking for, that you haven't been able to find in the used car dealership.

Online Race Rewards and Experience
When you complete a race in the open lobby or my lounge, you will now gain rewards and experience points. Therefore if you are focused more on playing online, you'll still be able to gain rewards and levels that you need to progress in GT Life.

Driving Distance and Number of wins in Online Races
The driving distance and number of wins you achieve when you complete a race in Open lobby or My lounge will now affect your stats in Profile and the Garage. Here again the results from your online play will cumulate within GT Life

Improved Rewards
The rewards for winning races in Both A-Spec and B-Spec in GT mode- GT Life have been increased for a limited time only. This applies until the end of January 2011. This is a great chance for those who were previously have difficulties getting ahead in the game, due to lack of funds for tuning and purchasing required cars.

Race Information Display
Is now available in the Start-Quick Options. You can also see this in Race Display in Options.

Save Data Backup
You can now copy and restore your save data. For details please refer to the in-game Manual

Personal BGM (menu)
From [options]-[hardware]-[Audio], it is now possible to set the Personal BGM (menu). This can also be accessed from the Music Library within GT Mode.

Car Name Change
The official name of the "Red Bull X1" has been changed to "Red Bull X2010"

Integration within the website
THe main features within GT Mode - Community can now be accessed through the "Gran-Turismo.com Official Website.

Important Note
We have made improvements to the Log within GT Mode - Community section,
in order to make its operation more stable. Please note that the information that was here before the update has been reset.

Some contents of the update will not be applied unless you sign into the Playstation Network when you play the game.

Finally got the redbull x1, holy mother of fuck, insane speed, can hardly control it.

I got my b-spec doing the 24hrs of le mans righ now. He has already lapped the other le mans race cars 46 laps I. The x1, they are no slow cars but the x1 is Fucken nuts.

The race is actual 24 hrs, sun goes down, race over night is epic, starts raining at one point etc..

Good thing they have b-spec to do the race for you, no Fucken way am I driving manually for 24 Fucken hours lol

Yeah I start to get sick of racing by 8th lap during those 10 lap races. Can't imagine racing for 24hrs.
My spec B guy is only at level 8 at the moment but I'll get him up there soon. :)
