Dogs can be trained but only to a point If the dog comes from a fighting line its probably gonna fight thats just in its DNA.
as far as banning them that is silly and stupid. You can just call your american pit bull a staffordshire terrior simple as that. Pit bulls get bad news press but if some one takes the time to look up dog bites pit bulls wont be on the top of the list I forget what is but not pits. Jack Russels and such are snappy little fuckers but the point is while other dogs also bite, you get bit by a pit and its a lot worse, if your a kid it could kill you.

Dissagree completely and tired of hearing this argument. In this country you can go out and buy an air rifle no licence nothing. If you want a bullet rifle or shotgun that clearly pose more danger, you must have a licence. Same difference, it may be more about the person holding the gun, but if it goes off on someone there is a world of difference in what can happen.

im tired of hearing the gun comparison. you have to ban the bread or do nothing. make all dog owners register there dog not just certain breads. what if its mixed then only full bread dogs get licensed? last weekend had some mixed dog chasing me in queens. what about german sheppards? this is how it works in our country the lincense will become a new way to tax people with these dogs. the cost will be low first few years so nobody complains all that much then they bump up. it willl only punish the responsible owner. the dogs arent really a problem its the strays that are and where i see it a problem is in the hood where they fight these dogs (michael vick). you think these people are going to pay for a license they dont for guns LOL.

I think that is the best point.

My mom has a Pit and a Coonhound. They are both great dogs, but they act very different around kids and other animals. If you just read this whole thread you can tell the overall opinion of Pits are loving but cautious. There is a lot of love of Pits but also a lot of qualifiers to owning one versus other breeds.

Registering a dog is an ineffective method of stopping attacks. Keep it it simple let people vote on it. it'll go county by county state by state if the dog is allowed or not...

I think what's getting confused here as there are two different debates going on as one. 1 is if the Pit breed is naturally as safe as others and 2 if they should be licensing of Pits or all dogs.

You do not need a licence to buy a shotgun in America you just need to be 18

According to the Clifton study, pit bulls, Rottweilers, Presa Canarios and their mixes are responsible for 74% of attacks that were included in the study, 68% of the attacks upon children, 82% of the attacks upon adults, 65% of the deaths, and 68% of the maimings. In more than two-thirds of the cases included in the study, the life-threatening or fatal attack was apparently the first known dangerous behavior by the animal in question. Clifton states:

If almost any other dog has a bad moment, someone may get bitten, but will not be maimed for life or killed, and the actuarial risk is accordingly reasonable. If a pit bull terrier or a Rottweiler has a bad moment, often someone is maimed or killed--and that has now created off-the-chart actuarial risk, for which the dogs as well as their victims are paying the price.

There is no point into having a debate on the most dangerous dogs. The facts being debated are about if certain breeds are inherently more dangerous and if certain breeds need restricted licensing.
