  • You ever felt on the edge of insanity?

I was reading this thing on eccentric geniuses of history and there behaviors of insanity. The "insanity" ranged from characteristics of OCD to Autism. I for one know I view and think in way that would make me a minority. I wonder at time if one day my mind can become so open to possibilities that I start appearing insane.

I know everyone here has their quirks. Do you ever wonder if it has the ability to become something more than just a personality trait?

The line between intelligence and insanity is thin, short, and blurry. The distinction is truly an arbitrary line that is inexorably drawn by those in power. The vicissitude of time will always alter our perception and perspective. So crazy one day may be genius the next. I know my apathy towards nearly everything borders on not normal, and leaves the chance that I may become completely without care one day.

But if you are on that precipice, do not suffer from insanity. Enjoy every moment of it.

For someone who majors in this stuff, you sure like to digress to pointless points :)

every sign behavioral deviance we have (from OCD to Autism) is considered a flaw based on the norm created by the general population in a given society. that is the first thing you learn in any clinical psychology seminar/class. however when it comes to how you think, there is no way to determine what is normal since it is objective.

now what you're saying is that geniuses often times show behavioral deviance. while this may be the case, you don't know how a "genius" who has autism is coping with processes constantly going on in their mind. the autistic child that is always counting piles of pebbles in a fishtank may not be doing that consciously, it is just a way to cope with what is going on in their mind. behavior therapy for autistic children is the treatment of choice because it teaches those children the "proper" way to physically deal with what is going on in their mind.

people that know me personally know that i have a mild case of "OCD" when it comes to how my work is done. i have to have papers in the same direction, they have to dated a certain way, they have to be formatted a specific way, etc. but it's all just a matter of having everything as organized as possible. while the specifics of the stuff i organize obsessively isn't important, but it's one less thing i need to worry about since my mind is always all over the place. ex) to write a paper i need distractions to get mind to focus. i'm the girl who's on facebook and itunes for 5 hours and can still kick out a 6-7 page A-grade paper.

i'm not saying that all people who are autistic or have OCD are geniuses, some people are just plain crazy. but you can't say they are acting like "this" because of "that".

as for your quirks getting out of hand, anything in excess gets out of hand. autistic children that demand all doors be shut in a room, people with OCD that have to have everything at right angles, it gets over the top. but with a little therapy, you can change their behavior without changing their mind.

See, that was much better and much more interesting to read :D

In my case, it has been show that most people with ADHD are highly intellegent. It just tends to get over looked because it presents itself as chaos and apathy.

stop trying to make a case for your own problems good sir. you're not smart. you're a smartass.

i don't think that people with ADHD are smart and just can't do much with their intelligence. intelligent people can deal with their problems with no issue whatsoever. but then again, intelligence is so socially biased. someone intelligent in terms of programming isn't intelligent when it comes to surviving in the desert.

I don't even understand what the basis for this attack is or what the point is. I also don't understand how you can try to speak from a point of authority and discredit the facts that aren't even mine or about me.

and we all know you are dumb on every level. You should stop piggybacking on everyone else posts as if you somehow are going to get credibility from the scraps.
